Talk for Reading

Talk for Reading is a tried and tested whole-school approach that has been developed in high attaining schools, often in challenging areas, and is proven to raise standards.

The day will introduce a clear and logical sequence for teaching reading that moves children towards independence. We will focus on the importance of deepening understanding through developing key reading strategies. This will be based on whole class modelling and shared reading, as well as effective guided and one-to-one teaching to deepen children’s understanding and engagement.

The school was used as an example of good practise by the National Strategies Team at the Department for Children, Schools and Families when Talk for Writing was rolled out across England.

We have now adopted the new 'Talk for Reading' initiative from Pie Corbett to help us achieve our ambitious targets for the children in their English Curriculum.
